Welcome to Academic Year 14/15
The following e-mail was sent to the campus community on Aug. 22, 2014:
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
Welcome to the start of the new academic year.
This week more than 7,000 new students joined our campus, participating in a series of Welcome Days events that introduced them to life at SF State. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with a good number of our newest Gators, and all were enthusiastic and ready to learn. I am very proud of the caliber of students that now call our campus home.
It was a busy week for faculty and staff as well, as we prepared for the official start of the new semester on Monday, at the Opening Faculty Meeting. In addition to updates and introduction of new faculty and administrators, we will honor the winners of faculty teaching awards. I invite all interested faculty, staff and students to attend, in McKenna Theatre beginning at 1 p.m.
This promises to be an exceptional year of growth and change for our campus. We will put the finishing touches on a comprehensive strategic planning process, and we will make changes that further our exceptional teaching, research and engagement in the community. The energy on campus is palpable.
One symbol of forward movement on our campus is the new home page for the University website, which will be unveiled Monday. It captures the bold, high-impact nature of SF State and brings onto one page resources and information that promote awareness, involvement and well-deserved pride. It’s a bold departure from our former look, symbolizing SF State’s energetic, positive momentum. Please visit www.sfsu.edu Monday morning for a first look at the new “front door” of the University.
Together, we will accomplish great things this academic year. I look forwarding to working with you, and on your behalf.
Les Wong,
President
