Romberg researchers help restore eelgrass habitat
Researchers at San Francisco State University's Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies worked recently to restore eelgrass habitat in San Francisco Bay and help marine life recover from a devastating 2007 oil spill, The Marin Independent Journal reported in a June 8 article.
The work is being funded through a $44.4 million settlement from the owners of the Cosco Busan cargo ship, which sideswiped the Bay Bridge and leaked thousands of gallons of bunker fuel into the Bay.
"We collected single shoots and then transplanted them to new sites," Romberg scientist and San Francisco State Professor of Biology Kathy Boyer says in the article, adding that collected samples were at least 16 feet apart.
