SAN FRANCISCO -- (March 29, 2018) -- Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins, a seasoned college athletics administrator with two decades of diverse experience, has been appointed San Francisco State University’s Director of Athletics. Her appointment takes effect May 1.

"Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins is uniquely suited to leading Gator athletics," said SF State President Leslie E. Wong. “I am excited about the future under Stephanie’s leadership.”

Shrieve-Hawkins will lead an athletics program featuring 12 teams and over 250 student-athletes competing in NCAA Division II. A member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, SF State has enjoyed noteworthy success in men’s basketball, men’s soccer and men’s wrestling. The school’s women’s outdoor track and field team is currently the top-ranked program in NCAA Division II.

“I am honored and proud to serve as the new Director of Athletics at San Francisco State University,” said Shrieve-Hawkins. “Gator Athletics has a strong foundation of success both academically and athletically. I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes, coaches and staff who have sustained that success.”

Shrieve-Hawkins has served since 2006 as Associate Athletic Director at Saint Mary’s College of California, a post she also held from 2000 to 2004. Her duties included supervising multiple sports programs, academic and student services, sports medicine, strength and conditioning and internal operations. She also provided guidance on NCAA compliance issues.

"We could not be happier to have Stephanie as our new athletic director," said SF State Assistant Professor Nicole Bolter, who co-chaired a national search for the position. “Stephanie’s philosophy for the student-athlete experience fits quite well with the mission of a DII program such as ours. She is well-positioned to genuinely understand and enhance the experiences of our student-athletes.”

Shrieve-Hawkins also has served as a development director at the University of California, Berkeley and Associate Athletic Director/Senior Women’s Administrator at the University of California, Irvine. She long has been actively engaged in NCAA policy initiatives and served on the West Coast Conference and Big West Conference executive committees.

A San Francisco native whose father, sister, and stepfather all earned degrees at SF State, Shrieve-Hawkins earned an undergraduate degree at California State University, Fullerton and a master’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (Kinesiology) from Saint Mary’s. She lives in Berkeley.
