Air Quality Update for August 21

Dear Campus Community,

A spare the air alert for the Bay Area is in effect due to smoke from fires in the region. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is forecasting air quality conditions for Friday, August 21 in the City and County of San Francisco that are in the range that is unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Sensitive groups should consider limiting outdoor activities. Children, older adults and individuals with heart and lung disease are considered especially sensitive and should remain indoors.

The campus has a supply of KN95 particulate masks for voluntary use. Students living on campus, who are sensitive to smoke, visit your residence hall’s community desk to pick up a mask. Faculty and staff on campus may go to Environment, Health and Safety located in ADM 260 to pick up a mask between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily this week.

Air quality conditions may be viewed on AirNow.gov. We will continue updating the SF State News site as new information becomes available.

The University will continue to monitor the situation and send updates as needed. Stay safe and take care.
