SF State Magazine spotlights the University’s trailblazing sexuality studies program
The Spring/Summer 2018 issue of SF State Magazine — now available at magazine.sfsu.edu — looks back on the founding of the University’s pioneering sexuality studies program while spotlighting other areas where the University continues to lead the way, from research labs to restauraunt kitchens.
The cover story pays tribute to late Professor of Psychology John DeCecco, who began teaching the popular (and controversial) course “Variations on Human Sexuality” in the 1970s. The issue also features an in-depth look at SF State’s Estuary and Ocean Science Center (EOS), the only university laboratory for marine research on San Francisco Bay, and its important work to monitor the effects of climate change.
Other stories highlight the University’s unique Experimental College, which allows students to create and lead their own courses; a partnership with an Oakland high school to check for elevated levels of lead in dust, soil, water and paint in East Oakland; and the many alumni who have become renowned chefs and restaurateurs. The issue also includes a roundup of SF State news and profiles of alumni putting their passion into action.
