Founders Day celebration marks SF State's 117th birthday

As it turns 117 this month, San Francisco State University will hold the annual Founders Day observance on March 15. To honor SF State's founding in 1899, the University will give away 1,899 tacos at the event.

The tacos will be distributed by Taqueria Girasol on the campus Quad from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Musical performers and student groups will also be on hand to add to the festivity. In the event of rain, the event will be held in Jack Adams Hall in the Cesar Chavez Student Center.

Today, more than 30,000 students are enrolled at SF State, and the University offers degrees and certificates in dozens of fields. More than 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students earned degrees at SF State last year, culminating in SF State's first-ever Commencement ceremony at AT&T Park.

As part of the Founders Day festivities, the Alumni Association is encouraging the campus community to honor SF State's heritage by making a donation in support of its future. Donations can be made a variety of ways:

• Alumni and friends can pledge to give $18.99 a month to help establish the 1899 Founders Day Scholarship Fund.
• Students are being asked to donate to the HOPE Fund that provides students with financial support in the event of an unexpected, personal crisis.
• Faculty and staff are encouraged to donate to any scholarship, department, program, school or college of their choice.
• Parents and families can donate to the Parent and Family Fund.
