SF State appoints Judith Munter as dean of the Graduate College of Education
April 11, 2014 -- San Francisco State University has appointed Judith Munter to be the next dean of the Graduate College of Education, the University announced today. Her appointment is effective July 1.

Munter has served as associate dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso since 2004. She will take over for Betsy Kean, who has served as SF State's interim dean of the Graduate College of Education since July 2012.
As dean, Munter will oversee a college of more than 1,000 students and 85 faculty members and will work with students, faculty and staff to foster student success and academic excellence through research, scholarship and community service. Her responsibilities will also include setting the College's priorities and managing College budgets, promoting relationships with alumni, leading fundraising efforts and building partnerships with the external community.
"Dr. Munter brings a wealth of experience in teacher preparation and administration to SF State, and I am excited she will lead the Graduate College of Education as it prepares the next generation of teachers," said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Sue V. Rosser. "In particular, her bilingual and international experience, as well as her statewide leadership in teacher education, will greatly benefit our efforts to train teachers who are deeply engaged with their communities and able to serve diverse populations of students."
At UTEP, Munter has overseen more than 20 interdisciplinary educator certification areas and supervised the advisement of more than 1,500 undergraduate students. She has planned and implemented international research conferences, developed new initiatives to foster student success and research, worked with state and federal officials on educator standards, and obtained more than $9 million in grant funding.
Munter received a bachelor's degree in elementary education and public health education from the University of Wisconsin, a master's degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) from Florida International University, and a Ph.D. in educational foundations and policy from Florida State University.
The Graduate College of Education offers master's degrees and credential programs in a variety of fields -- including elementary, secondary and special education -- as well as a bachelor's degree and two doctoral programs. The College participates in a wide array of community outreach and research projects and is active in international education.
