Town Hall Meeting on Science Building Closure
The following e-mail was sent to the campus community on Feb. 11, 2014:
Dear students, faculty and staff:
Within the next few days we expect to receive conclusions from two consultants who have reviewed the environmental testing and investigation of the Science Building to date. The consultants are Michael Fischman, MD, MPH, an occupational toxicologist and a Clinical Professor of Medicine in UCSF’s Division of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, and Patricia Beach, MS, CIH, a certified industrial hygienist and environmental toxicologist specializing in human exposure and risk assessment. Their conclusions will include assessment of the potential health implications, if any, for recent and past occupants of the building. They will also make recommendations for management of the building contamination.
I have asked Dr. Fischman and Ms. Beach to describe their findings at a Town Hall meeting here on campus. It will be held Thursday, Feb. 13 from 1-2:30 pm in McKenna Theatre, Creative Arts Building. I encourage all students, faculty and staff with an interest in the issue to attend. Seating is first-come, first-served.
If your schedule prevents you from attending, you can send questions in advance to answers@sfsu.edu (please put “Town Hall” in the subject line), and view a video that will be posted the next day.
The Town Hall agenda and latest test reports are posted at http://buildingclosure.sfsu.edu/ The consultants will be available after the presentations to address as many questions as time allows, and administrative staff will be available at the meeting’s close to address other building closure questions one-on-one.
I again thank all of you for the spirit of cooperation and shared commitment to safety that you have exhibited this past month. While we still have many questions and activities to address in the months ahead, completion of the health analysis is a very important milestone, and I look forward to seeing you at the Town Hall.
