More than 250 spring classes added to help students graduate
University adds sections of high-demand courses required to complete degrees
Good news, Gators: SF State is adding more than 250 classes next spring to help you get closer to graduation.
The additional course sections are aimed at easing the bottleneck that can occur when classes that are required to complete degrees become full, forcing some students to delay graduation as they wait for space to open up. The bulk are upper-division courses the University has identified as traditionally over-enrolled, though high-demand general education classes have been added as well.
“We know that, for many students, the availability of these upper-division courses can have a big impact on their ability to complete their degree,” said Jennifer Summit, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Supporting students’ academic progress is a major priority for SF State and for the California State University as a whole, and so I’m thrilled that we can offer these courses to the students who need them to graduate.”
The additional classes are funded by more than $1 million from the Chancellor’s Office and span all six academic colleges. The University has also been working with faculty across campus to reach out to students who are close to graduation and advise them on options for completing their degrees, such as course substitution.
“We want students to know that we hear their concerns and are committed to doing everything we can to help them remain on the path to graduation,” said Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Luoluo Hong. “Students are also encouraged to be in touch with their faculty advisor or our Undergraduate Advising Center if they have questions about requirements or need any assistance in planning their class schedule.”
Early priority Spring 2017 registration for continuing students begins Nov. 28. To view the Spring 2017 class schedule, visit webapps.sfsu.edu/public/classservices/classsearch.
