Media Advisory: SF State to welcome new students

More than 7,000 new freshmen and transfer students will arrive on campus during Welcome Days

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 18, 2014 -- San Francisco State University will welcome more than 7,000 new freshmen and transfer students this week as part of the University's annual Welcome Days week of activities. Welcome Days seeks to acquaint new students and their families with the SF State community, introducing them to the range of resources available on campus.

Incoming residential students will move onto campus on Thursday, Aug. 21. Activities on Friday, Aug. 22, are designed for all incoming students, highlighted by "SF State Welcome: Faces of Community," the University's official welcome event.

WHAT: Move-In Day

WHEN: 10 a.m. and onward, Thursday, Aug. 21 (high-volume 10 a.m. to noon)

WHERE: Students and parents will unload cars near the residence halls along Font Boulevard (at Lake Merced Boulevard) and State Drive (at Lake Merced Boulevard) in San Francisco

WHAT: SF State Welcome Days

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 22

WHERE: San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco

HIGHLIGHTS: SF State Welcome: Faces of Community is the University's official welcome to incoming students and their families and will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on the Quad. Speakers will include SF State President Les Wong, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Luoluo Hong and Associated Students Inc. President Kenneth Collins. Other activities throughout the day include the "Taste of SF State" lunch, the "First Class" lecture presented in McKenna Theatre and informational panels for students and parents.
