Media Advisory: SF State professor to host poetic celebration of Pacifica Pier
SF State Professor of Creative Writing Toni Mirosevich will host a pair of events as part of her project to create a "lyric documentary" about the Pacifica Pier. Taking a cue from signs along the coastal landmark instructing fishermen to cast only "two lines per person," "Fishing for Words" will invite the public to walk the pier and stop at designated points to compose a poem two lines at a time. The event will also feature food, a poetry contest and music from the Pacifica-based Seaside Singers.
The second event, "Pier Pressure: A Celebration," will feature poetry readings by Mirosevich, singing, multimedia presentations and a surf band. Both events are free and open to the public.
Mirosevich's "Pacifica Pier Project" is funded by a Creative Work Grant from SF State's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and aimed at documenting a year in the life of the Pacifica Pier through poetry.
