Yu-Charn Chen is an expert in computer-aided design and industrial technology. Chen has taught courses in electrical drafting, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, electrical material science, and electrical technology. He previously was an electrical communications officer in the Chinese Air Force and has worked as a design engineer for several companies in the Bay Area.

A former public school teacher, Laureen Chew advocated for the bilingual programs in San Francisco Unified School District. Chew was one of the students at SF State who organized the 1968/69 student led strike for more faculty of color and ethnic studies curriculum.
