Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act
The following e-mail was sent to the campus community on Feb.. 20, 2013:
Dear Colleague,
More than 700,000 children are victims of abuse or neglect annually in the United States and close to 100,000 California children are victimized each year. To enhance the safety and protection of our kids, the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) was recently amended.
As a result of these amendments to CANRA and the issuance of CSU Executive Order 1083 (Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect), all CSU employees now have an obligation to report suspected or known incidents of child abuse or neglect and must sign an acknowledgement that they are “mandatory reporters” under the law. In compliance with the amended law and the new CSU Executive Order, I have designated Michael Martin, Executive Director, Human Resources, Safety and Risk Management as our CANRA reporting officer.
Acknowledgement forms will be delivered to all employees via their departments along with their paychecks/paystubs on Thursday, February 28th. Hourly staff members and student employees will receive the forms on Friday, March 15th. Faculty and staff must sign and return it to their appropriate administrator by March 15th. Hourly staff members and student employees are to return signed forms no later than Friday, March 29, 2013. Appropriate administrators will forward all signed attachments to Safety and Risk Management (ADM 252) where they will be retained.
Executive Order 1083 and its attachments can be found as a PDF at http://www.calstate.edu/eo/EO-1083.pdf or in HTML at http://www.calstate.edu/eo/EO-1083.html.
I know that you join me in wanting to do all that we can to make our campus community a safe place for everyone and I appreciate your prompt attention and compliance with these changes in the law. Should you have any questions or information to report, please contact Michael Martin at mjmartin@sfsu.edu or Bryan Kauffman at bkauffma@sfsu.edu.
Sincerely,
Les Wong
President
