Wildfire Smoke Preparation

Dear campus community, 

 

As wildfire season continues in California and throughout the western U.S., we want to prepare for the impacts poor air quality may have on our University. This year, with decreased capacity to move activities indoors due to the limitations imposed by the ongoing pandemic, we will be instituting a lower threshold for moving courses and other activities to remote modalities.

 

Air quality conditions can be unpredictable, and forecasts are often unreliable. In the event campus leadership is advised that wildfire smoke is significantly impacting air quality at any SF State campus location, a notification will be sent out requesting those activities which may be performed remotely transition to remote modalities. When wildfire smoke impacts air quality on campus, the Emergency Notification System will be used to distribute health and safety information.

 

Students and faculty are advised to prepare now for the possible need to move in-person activities to remote modalities by utilizing instructional continuity resources. Appropriate administrators should determine what work activities may be converted to telework and communicate plans to their teams. For employees whose positions require them to remain on site, building coordinators have appropriate personal protective equipment for distribution.
