Statement from President Wong on the death of a student

I am deeply saddened to inform you that San Francisco State University lost a member of our community yesterday. Accounting major Maxim Tolstov was found dead near the Stonestown Galleria on Wednesday, October 5. The San Francisco Police Department is investigating, but foul play is not suspected.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Maxim’s family and friends for their profound loss. As we struggle to make sense of this loss, please remember that counseling and support services are available to all members of the SF State community.

Students can reach Counseling and Psychological Services Center on campus in Student Services Building Rm. 208 or by calling (415) 338-2208. Faculty and staff can call the Employee Assistance Program 24/7 at (800)367-7474 to speak with a professional counselor.

Les Wong
