Statement from the President on Student Tragedy

Dear Campus Community,

I write to share tragic news that a San Francisco State student was shot Thursday afternoon in an off-campus incident and died Thursday evening. There is no threat to the University community and the San Francisco Police Department, which responded to the incident, has detained a person of interest. Further details are not available at this time and the student’s name has been withheld pending notification of family.

This is a tragic loss for the San Francisco State University community. The tragic and untimely death of a student takes a particularly deep emotional toll. For students in need of additional support during this time, please contact University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at (415) 338-2208.

On behalf of the San Francisco State University community, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the student’s family and friends.

Sincerely,

Lynn Mahoney
President
