SF State with CSU Joins Amicus Brief in Support of DACA

Dear University community members,

San Francisco State University and the California State University, together with 165 colleges and universities nationwide, have joined an amicus brief in support of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, in the case before the Supreme Court. The brief is available online: bit.ly/DACAamicus

Two years ago, on Sept. 5, 2017, the administration rescinded DACA, an initiative that provides work permits and protection from deportation for upwards of 700,000 undocumented students, often known as “Dreamers.” Oral arguments on this rescission will be held at the Supreme Court on Nov. 12.

San Francisco State with the CSU joined the “friend of the court” brief in demonstration of our unwavering support for our DACA and immigrant students. DACA students bring a tremendous amount of diversity to campuses across the nation such as SF State. We are invested in the success of these students — and the continued existence of DACA is essential in ensuring the career and life success of these immigrant youth. The triumph of DACA students is a triumph beyond the University, whether expanding our nation’s and community’s work force and tax base, ensuring a robust alumni base or injecting new perspectives and diversity on campuses. SF State stands behind DACA students and Dreamers.
