Resources following student tragedy
Dear campus community,
On Oct. 25, President Mahoney wrote to share with you the tragic, untimely death of one of our students. Since then, many of you may have read or viewed stories in the news media about charges filed against a suspect related to the student’s death. At this time, the case remains in the hands of the law enforcement community in San Francisco.
Reading about charges of domestic violence can be upsetting and triggering. I’d like to remind our students about the resources available to them in the SAFE Place and Counseling and Psychological Services for anyone needing extra support. In the coming weeks, we will host information sessions and campus conversations for those who would like to know more about resources and options related to domestic violence awareness — please be on the lookout for upcoming announcements.
For anyone experiencing dating or domestic violence, the Equity Programs and Compliance Office is available for you to report concerns and learn more about options and available resources. For anyone interested in sponsoring a workshop or learning session about prevention of domestic and dating violence, the Health Promotion and Wellness office is available for consultation.
For faculty and staff in need of support at this time, your Employee Assistance Program is available 24/7 by phone or online to provide guidance and referral for care. Contact (800) 367-7474 or visit mylifematters.com and enter sfsu as your company password.
My heart goes out to friends and family of the student, and I know that many in our campus community are affected deeply by this loss.
Sincerely,
Beth Hellwig, Ph.D.
Interim Vice President
