Message from President Wong: Chancellor White's Message to CSU Community on DACA
Tuesday, September 05, 2017
Dear SF State community,
Like many of you, I am outraged by the decision today by the Trump administration to rescind the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. I am writing to you today to share a letter from CSU Chancellor Timothy White and to remind you of some important information in these trying times.
- If any student, staff or faculty member, regardless of immigration status, feels unsafe on campus or is approached by an immigration agent, contact the University Police Department immediately for assistance.
- The University remains strongly committed to protecting the educational privacy of all of its students – regardless of immigration status – as stipulated under FERPA (Family Education Rights Privacy Act). Unless legally required to do so, we will not release requested student information protected under FERPA without the express written permission of the student about whom the information is being requested.
- Our counseling services and other support functions, such as our Dream Resource Center and Undocu-Allies, remain available to respond to the growing sense of anger and fear many are experiencing.
We are a community that puts our passion into action, and this issue is no different. I invite you to join me in raising your voice in support of this vulnerable but resilient community of students. Urge your Congressional representatives to restore protections for individuals and families deeply affected by the rescinding of DACA.
Dr. Les Wong
President
