Announcement from President Wong

Dear San Francisco State community,

I am announcing news that is both exciting for the CSU system, but also sad for San Francisco State University.

Effective August 1, Vice President Luoluo Hong will leave her post to join the Chancellor’s Office as Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management. In her new role, VP Hong will bring her extensive background in higher education to the CSU level, providing strategic counsel on improving student success, enrollment management and educational experiences for the overall CSU system.

VP Hong has more than two decades of progressively responsible experience in higher education, holding many senior administrative roles pertaining to student affairs. She is a nationally sought-after speaker and trainer in the areas of violence prevention, social justice and leadership, delivering over 3,000 presentations and 75 keynote speeches.

During her five years working at SF State, VP Hong has made a significant impact on student life at our University. For example, she has played an integral role in:

• Leading cross-cabinet efforts to meet full-time student enrollment targets and Graduation Initiative 2025 goals
• Building the Office of Equity Programs & Compliance from the ground up to ensure effective institutional response to Title IX and DHR incidents and complaints
• Founding the Division of Equity & Community Inclusion and establishing various campus units such as Health Promotion & Wellness, Black Unity Center and Dream Resource Center
• Serving as co-principal investigator for the AANAPISI Title III grant that established the Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Services Office
• Initiating the Dean-on-Call program to better respond to student crises and provide ombudsman services to students
• Completing the first-ever comprehensive campus climate assessment project and implementing initiatives based on the results
• Developing the HOPE Crisis Fund and Basic Needs Initiatives to support students in times of unexpected crises

President-elect Lynn Mahoney, in consultation with the President’s cabinet, will appoint an interim vice president and begin planning for a national search.
